When the refrigerant flows in the copper tube of the evaporator, it absorbs the latent heat in the air and boils. However, due to the low heat transfer coefficient on the air side, in order to meet the heat transfer capacity, without increasing the heat transfer temperature difference, the only way to increase the heat transfer coefficient is to increase the heat transfer coefficient. , Increase the heat exchange area and install a fan to increase the air flow speed, in order to improve the heat exchange capacity of the evaporator. Commonly used are flooded type, falling film type and direct expansion type.

1. Flooded evaporator
Advantages of flooded evaporator: compact structure, convenient operation and management, high heat transfer coefficient.
Disadvantages of flooded evaporator: when the refrigerant is fresh water, the tube may freeze, causing the tube to burst, the temperature at the bottom of the liquid rises, the heat transfer temperature difference is reduced, it is difficult to return oil to the refrigerant that is miscible with lubricating oil, and the refrigerant is charged. When the filling volume is large and it is used on ships, the liquid level swing is likely to cause a cylinder flushing accident.
2. Dry evaporator
Advantages of dry evaporator: ensure that lubricating oil is brought back to the compressor, the refrigerant charge is less than one-third, and the evaporation temperature will not freeze when the evaporation temperature is around 0 °C, and the thermal expansion valve can be used to supply liquid, which is simpler than using a float valve reliable.

Disadvantages of dry evaporators: gas-liquid stratification occurs in the end cover, which affects the uniform distribution of the next process and leaks on the water side.

3. air evaporators
The surface air cooler with refrigerant as the refrigerant is called direct evaporative air cooler. It is actually the evaporator in the refrigeration cycle, and its function is the same as the water-cooled surface cooler. When the air passes between the evaporator tubes, heat exchange occurs with the refrigerant liquid in the evaporator tubes, the refrigerant liquid evaporates into refrigerant vapor due to absorbing the heat of the air, and the air heats up due to the loss of heat. decline.
